I came out of liberal politics — that politics is over. ... And it’s fundamentally over because the labor movement is over. ... But [unionized] labor went from 34 percent of the labor force to now 6 percent of the private sector — the whole power structure is disintegrated. ... People haven’t grasped how profound that change is.

I wrote a piece recently about the number of people who are [estimated] to die [because of future climate change impacts]. We’re talking to 300,000 to 500,000 a year worldwide.

Sequía en California

Según científicos, podría ser la peor sequía en 1, 200 años. Lagos artificiales llenados con agua de deshielo se volverán lodosos.

Se pueden ver los resultados de semanas sin nubes en el lago de Nuevo Melones. La cuarta reserva más grande de agua para cultivo del Estado está apenas 20% llena. Podría estar vacía para el fin del verano.

El caso del lago MaClure, lo que queda del río Merced que sale del parque nacional Yosemite, es peor.

Además uno de los temores de hacer del agua un bien intercambiable económicamente es que los ricos y las comunidades políticamente poderosas podrían quedarse toda el agua limpia, mientras que los pobres serían dejados afuera. Un sistema de clase sobre el aire puro ya se ha desarrollado en China.
